Windsor 2030 survey results
The Windsor 2030 survey is now closed.
Please click below for the raw results. Note that these are yet to be analysed for statistical significance, sample bias or correlations so any conclusions drawn should be treated tentatively.
However, at first glance, it does seem that ‘preserving our heritage’, ‘retail mix’ and ‘attractive architecture’ are emerging as the key priorities for improvement. Public parks and outdoor areas and independent brands also scored highly. Collectively these could be described as ‘ambiance’. It is a good fit with what Windsor 2030 has called ‘five star Windsor’, validating this objective as well as the ‘heritage’ objective.
Also emerging as priorities are car parking and ‘making it easier to get here’. The last could be regarded as surprising given that many respondents live here but on the other hand they also clearly suffer the same jams and frustrations with parking. This would also appear to suggest that the proposed transport objective is also in-line with respondents’ wishes.
Less popular for improvement was ‘top brands’, perhaps reflecting Windsor’s attraction as a more traditional shopping centre, that people don’t want it to become just another retail outlet or to try to compete with larger places such as Reading. Coming last was ‘shops for people on a budget’. However, it should be noted that even though this is less popular it still didn’t score zero and that the difference between the most popular and least popular options was relatively small, suggesting that people want a balanced approach to the town.
Also worth a read are the free text comments. The unprompted themes emerging include:
- Improving the riverside area
- Better rail services/supporting WLR (12 comments); against WLR (3 comments)
- Parking/park-n-ride
- Quality/type of shops
- Nightlife (abolish or improve)
- Cycling
- Road and pavement surfaces
There seemed a reasonable mix of resident and non-resident responses but a slight bias in the number of male vs female respondents, which may affect the above results when adjusted for. A good proportion of younger respondents was also achieved.

The Windsor2030 Vision Day has been featured in Local Berkshire, with the story illustrated by a derelict part of Thames Street.
Areas highlighted for improvement include the upper St Leonard’s Road/lower Peascod Street area, Peascod Quarter around William Street, King Edward Court and High Street/Thames Street as well as exploring the Windsor Link Railway idea and improving the riverside part of town.
Around 100 people went to the event and Dermot Whelan, chairman of the Windsor 2030 steering group, said: “The good thing was that a lot of people are now interested – that’s the most important thing. That said, we would like to get more residents’ feedback as this is their plan.
“None of the areas we suggested are set in stone and more can be added – that is the idea of this consultation which is still ongoing.”

Vision Day report
The Windsor2030 steering group is delighted with its ‘vision day’ yesterday. We were busy for the whole four hours with a steady stream of visitors coming to see the presentation boards. These outlined the forum’s approach to addressing the issues that Windsor has and improving them.
Visitors who left comments got a free cup of coffee and there’s still time to complete our survey if you want to win a pair of Bang & Olufslen headphones.
We’ll publish the comments once they’re collated but the initial feedback seems to be positive, indicating that the forum is on the right lines.
If you couldn’t make it on the day you can see the vision boards that were displayed by clicking the button betow. If you have any comments please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Top 10 Windsor?
Recent research published by Harper Dennis Hobbs has Windsor as 46th in their ‘vitality ratings’ of Britain’s shopping centres. This isn’t a terrible result but should Windsor be aiming to do better?
Could Windsor aim to repeat Guildford’s success?

Vision Planning Meeting
Volunteers for the Windsor 2030 steering group met yesterday at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel.
They’re working on the “Vision Day” being held on 25 November, also at the Sir Christopher Wren. The purpose this day is to get feedback from residents and users of the town centre on themes for improvement. These are based on evidence including that gathered by the previous Central Windsor Neighbourhood Plan and paid-for market research into Windsor’s local customers.
Also influencing the vision will be the Windsor2030 survey. Take it here.
